for porter
my nephew, robert, and cute wife, katie are the proud parents of baby porter: their first. i am excited to get this off to them. congrats! i've been really into squares lately. {well for years, actually} i think i've got some chevrons in my future. Note: the first photo is post-wash. the last 3 are pre-wash. i like the crinkled, vintage look washing gives a quilt, so my 2 yr. old took the quilt's (and my) picture to capture the look.

That is SO cute! I have similar fabric, and am now inspired to do the squares. AG
Sarah!
Those are so SO darling!!! I LOVE quilting but have not developed any skill at all so it is super fun for me to live through your stuff! :)
Mom, Thanks. I think you showed me the fabrics you're talking about. They are so cute! Let me know if you need any help.
Jen, thanks. You're so nice.
that quilt is sooooo fantastic! nice job!!!
you are amazing with those quilts! I still have the one you made for Reeslyn and I love it!!!
I LOVE the orange pattern fabric. The blues are so fun too. Lucky recipient.
I really like this and want to do something similar for a new niece. What are the dimensions of the middle square and the outer strips? Also, how many big squares do you use to make the quilt?
Thanks for your creative inspiration!
This quilt measures approx. 36" x 48". It is 3 blocks across by 4 blocks down.
Cut twelve squares - 6 1/2 inches. Cut border strips - 3 1/2 inches wide. The final block measures 12 1/2 inches. Use quarter inch seams.
Hope that helps. Good Luck!
Perfect! Thank you so much for being willing to share.
Erynn
very cute, you know I love it. Becky made a quilt with some of the same fabrics, so fun.
i haven't quilted forever! but now i think i'm getting inspired... maybe because i thought it was for my porter... we catch up once a year and i thought, wow, that was a great conversation! she's making my baby a quilt!
ok... totally teasing... i love it and may just make one for my porter! you have a great talent! your eye for amazing fabrics is wonderful!
michelle, you're cute!
thanks everyone, for your kind words.
michelle, if you're really interested in a quilt for your porter, i'd love to help you with it.
Sarah, TOO CUTE! I stole your square pattern after seeing the Nie auction one. I made one for my sister-in-law for their new house, and it's so big I can't stipple it with my machine! What size is the inside square? I'll send a picture, it's the new Heidi Grace from Joanns (I bought it before it ever made it on display!)
Amy
amy,
first of all, i didnt' know you were a stippler.
and second of all, yes i want to see it.
lastly, the inside square is 6 1/2 inches. it ends up being 6 inches once it's sewn. how big did you make yours?
So cute. I had my mom make me a quilt with many of the same fabrics . Love the bold colors and patterns.
Fabulous. I still cherish and proudly display the quilts you made for Megan and Ethan. (And receive countless compliments on them!) You are not only talented, but generous with your talent.
cute quilt! you're so crafty. :)
sarah! i love love love the mix of colors and fabrics - i need to learn how to do that free stitch, i think it looks so much better than any quilting machine could do! so darling!
courtney,
i just looked the quilts your mom made. they are really beautiful!
Sarah, I was in the Neilson's ward several years ago and I have been following S & C progress over the past few months. Just as a side note I grew up in Bluewater till 5th grade. Any ways I was wondering were you buy all your fabric? I really wanted to make my girls a quilt with the fabric you used for the quilt for the auction. I hope you don't me asking. I love all of your quilts. goodmangang.blogspot.com
Crystal Goodman
Crystal,
Thank you. The fabric I used for the auction quilt is called "Summer in the City" by Urban Chicks for Moda. It was released sometime in 2007, so not everyone is still carrying it, as it is no longer in production. I did recently see a few of the fabrics at www.wishuponaquilt.com.
Also if you go to quiltshops.com, and do a search for "summer in the city" everything that comes up is from that line. I just did it and there were lots of choices, and most of it is on clearance now. Good luck and thank you for your concern and love for Christian and Stephanie.
You are so talented!
