redemption

My kids have been mad at me this week for various reasons, including, but not limited to:
  • not making what they like for dinner
  • asking them to clean their rooms over and over again
  • not spending $17 on a song download so they (she) can better memorize the fifty states and their capitals for a test on Friday. $17? What? (anyone have ideas on how to remember these?)
  • not letting them watch FROSTY until their homework was done
  • making them practice the piano and fill out their practice charts correctly
Yep, I guess I'm the mean mom. But I saw this yesterday on our patio table:

Apparently, somebody still loves me. And not just the 2 year old, unless he secretly knows how to write.

I agree, SO SWEET!

it's good to know the love is still there even when they are mad. It's like I sometimes tell Travis, I love you, I just don't like you right now.

Lucky that's your patio table, otherwise if it were your kitchen table it might be a hidden message for "Dust Mom". Kidding! I thought this was a sweet post. I love how kids get mad at us for making them do the basics. They won't appreciate it until they are older and they will realize just how much we loved them.
I also love the advent post. That is a cute idea. And way to go on giving up candy. I need to try that.

I'm trying to be a mean mom this week but consistency isn't my forte. I'm working on it. Thanks for the inspiration to continue on in my efforts. They really do love you for it in the end, right?

Don't worry, you're not the meanest mom ever--that's me.

Although you sound perfectly reasonable to me! Then again, I think the dusty message let's you know that someone else thinks you're "ok," too. :)

I think Emily knows a states song. Sarah, what do you and Mark want for Christmas??

Sweet message, but more important: I love that patio table! Where to find?

And...I didn't know your kids took piano! Do you guys have a piano? (I assume.) Fill me in!

table: crate and barrel (bought in July 2008)
piano: Deseret Industries (my mom found it a few years ago and thought it was worth the $500 price tag. It was in good condition, well-maintained as a former church piano, only 7 years old, and you can't beat that price.)

I love it. My kids say the same things, but I haven't recieved any sweet notes on my patio table yet. I will just have to take their pouty head tilts for kisses and hugs as assurance that I am still loved.

Yup, I am glad. You make the cutest quilts I have ever in my life seen. And, I love that you are humble enough to share your love note, even if it is in patio dust.

Thanks Blood Family.
