raise your hand if you remember erma bombeck

Earlier this week, Mark and I attended the annual 4th grade Wax Museum. Famous Arizonans came to life and detailed their contributions to the state.  We met John McCain, Geronimo, Sandra Day O'Connor and 20 others. My favorite was Erma Bombeck, as portrayed by Grace. She borrowed a wig and trypewriter from Grandma, and high heel shoes from me.
FYI: Erma Bombeck wrote several humorous books and light-hearted newspaper columns and also starred on ABC's Good Morning America for 11 years. She's a midwesterner, but spent several years living in Arizona and contributed the proceeds from one of her books to a camp for cancer patients in Arizona.

When the list was initially passed around with more than 50 famous Arizonans to choose from, Grace asked about Erma and I told her she was a famous writer and was very funny.  Grace immediately signed up to be her.  She did a wonderful job doing all the research herself, writing and memorizing her 5 minute speech, coming up with ideas for her background and props. I am really proud of her for doing such a thorough job.

What fun! Good choice Grace. I always loved Erma Bombeck. We had several of her books and I read them all at least twice.

P.S. I have those same shoes!

HIlary,
Yes indeed. I can see you are a fan.

Alice,
I can see you are a fan too.
I bought those shoes after I saw you wear them in Seattle. They hurt like the dickens though, so they are currently in my giveaway pile. Do yours hurt?

Grace is a knockout in that wig! Wow! I wish I could have seen her presentation. Maybe she'll do it next time we're there. Erma B. was a favorite of mine, too.

I remember her columns especially. This looks like such a fun project for school. Grace did Erma proud!
