desert oasis

Mark and I spent a relaxing 24 hours at the Camelback Inn.  My mom graciously watched our kids back on the homefront while we enjoyed peace and quiet, dinner at La Grande Orange, a delicious breakfast, shopping, gorgeous landscaping, that view of Camelback Mountain and swimming sans children.
I am (once again) convinced anyone can have beautiful flowers like these.  Even in the desert. How hard can it be?  Mark assures me it requires more time and money and weeding than either of us cares to contribute to the cause.
We've been back 2 days and I'm ready to go again.

Yes, it's true. When Abby and Jessi were in the Phoenix Show Choir troupe, they performed at all kinds of resorts, and one time (it might have been here) Margaret Thatcher was also backstage, having just finished a speech or something, and she greeted all of the kids! They had no idea who she was at the time, but Franki and I were star-struck!
Your photos are really nice-I like the borders and color treatments. As for going again, make the reservation! I'll be over.

I know Camelback Inn so well. I grew up just down the street a couple of miles away. I worked there in high school, college and even after college. Their slogan is "In All The World Only One". I saw lots of celebs there such as Mick Fleetwood and Stevie Nicks, Art Garfunkel and Johnny Carson.

I love your photos, too--you always do such a good job with that. Was this for a special occasion, or just a fun little getaway? Looks beautiful. I agree--nothing like gorgeous flowers in the desert! (Didn't Goldie Hawn write a memoir about that?)
p.s. you look great as always.

No special occasion - just our sanity.

Goldie Hawn is a writer?

Once upon a time I had my cotillion there, then there was a bomb threat and we were all evacuated to the pool area. That is my random memory of the Camelback Inn! Glad you got a little, well-earned time away. (And my mom's yard is full of flowers year-round here in AZ, so it's possible- with a lot of love)!

erin,
i should have known your mom would have beautiful flowers year round. you must get it from her.

i didn't know you were a cotillion girl. i'm jealous.

Funny how going on a "get away" always seems to have the effect of making you want more. :) It's not that the children aren't cute and lovely to be around ALL the time, there's just something about peace, quiet and only worrying about getting yourself dressed that is rather addicting. :) Glad you had a nice trip.

Sar, she wrote a memoir called "A Lotus Blooms in the Desert." I never read it, and I am really embarrassed that I know this. It's only because I remember being struck by what a ripoff of "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn" the title was.

Yes. These are the things I think about when I'm not reading your blog.
