We just finished our 5th week of school. That's right, while most of the northern hemisphere was still on vacation, we began the dreaded homework grind. Let me just voice what I already knew, but had re-confirmed early on this school year: Kindergarten homework is killer for the parents - last year, I spent the better part of every school night reviewing phonograms, giving spelling tests, reading directions, grading math pages, etc. etc. This year, 1st grade homework is a breath of fresh air! Maybe that's not good in the long run, but man, what a difference for my sanity.
Our elementary school recently held student council elections, and guess who is Student Body President? Grace! She gave a cute speech, introducing herself as Michael Phelps, wearing goggles, flippers and an inner tube around her waist. She's a gold-medal president.
Just look at all those spiffy new shoes. Wish you could see Grace's new neon peach (salmon?) backpack. I love it!
Our high-schooler leaves for school at 6 am, so she was not part of the elementary photo shoot. We took hers that same night, since I was too groggy to even remember to pull out the camera in the morning. FYI, her top and shoes are from Forever 21. Said she got lots of looks and compliments about those shoes. :)
Look at those darling kiddos! I love them all so much. And want to steal Molly's wardrobe, per usual.
ReplyDeleteP.S. The rug looks awesome in there!
ReplyDeleteyes i second abby. that rug is amazing!
ReplyDeleteand i can't believe you have been in for five weeks. we start next week and i have no idea if i am happy or dreading it.
I third Abby! The kids look darling. I'm tickled pink that Grace won her election! I want to see everyone soon.
ReplyDeleteMolly looks amazing as usual, must get it from her mom. Love the diaper/binky picture - everyone looks great for the first day of school (even if it is way too early in my opinion). Way to go Grace, born leader!
ReplyDeleteOk, this is totally random because you don't know me...but I've been reading your blog for forever and I'm your sis-in-law Liz's friend. I was just wondering what kind of quilting machine you have?? I love to quilt too and am just curious as I hope to buy one for myself. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteAnd your kids look adorable by the way!!
GIles family,
ReplyDeleteI have an old Pfaff 1473 - its just a regular machine and I love it. Pretty sure Viking bought Pfaff several years ago though. I hear good things about Viking and Janome, but have never used them. What kind of machine do you use? Sometimes simple machines are great for quilting.
Thanks for stopping by!
Darling kids--and way to go, Grace! That is a big deal, being pres! She is so cute. And Molly? Wow. All grown up, so pretty. Love her shoes, too. My big question is why in the world she is leaving at 6 am for school! What are they doing to that poor child?
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm w/Merideth--school starts Tues for us, and I'm happy/sad. Summer's too short. How do you like year-round?
Great post!
Jennifer,
ReplyDeleteI like year round a lot. Mostly. It's hard to miss out on some family summer events because we are in school, but I love the fall and spring breaks. Mostly what I love about our school is the uniform.
They are all so cute!
ReplyDeleteI love your couch!!! Is that from Alice Lane?? And that rug is amazing too!
ReplyDeleteErin,
ReplyDeleteYes, Alice Lane.
