Wendy at Blue Lily photography is my new friend; easy going, fun and talented. She posted this sneak peak of our family photos today. I am excited. As shown below.
Sarah- I am wondering what the dimensions are for the fabirc peices in the quilt you had others bid on? (The pink, turquiose, orange and blue one.) Is there a pattern I can buy or was that all your talent? It was wonderful. My little sister is having a baby, I'd love to make her one. What line of fabric is that? It could not be cuter! I looked for your email address, but couldn't find it, thus I am leaving you a comment here. Thanks. Angie, in Utah P.S. If all this is Top secret... no problem, but I thought I'd ask!
abby, was the conversation about not being too matchy-matchy? I wanted us to be more, "this is what I picked out to wear today, independent of what my children and husband are wearing." Nope, we're pretty matchy. Next year, I'll just let the kids choose their hole-y jeans and fav. t shirt. We're sure to not be matchy then. This should be a whole new post...
I wish I could pull off not being matchy-matchy like you do! I'm always panicked that we'll all clash and look terrible, then we all end up being ultra matchy. How do you avoid this? I love what Molly is wearing. Where do you get your kids' clothes? I swear they don't even sell anything that cute up here! (At least, not at the prices I need :)
Angie, There is no pattern. It's pretty easy though. I posted some info about this quilt in the comments of the post "for porter" in Oct of this year. You could check there to see if I forgot anything. I need to just post the instructions on the sidebar of my blog so it is easily accessible. No one will ever see them in the comments. :)
The fabric I used for the auction quilt is called "Summer in the City" by Urban Chicks for Moda. It was released sometime in 2007, so not everyone is still carrying it, as it is no longer in production. I did recently see a few of the fabrics at www.wishuponaquilt.com.
Also if you go to quiltshops.com, and do a search for "summer in the city" everything that comes up is from that line. I just did it and there were lots of choices, and most of it is on clearance now.
For a baby quilt, cut 12 - 6.5 inch squares (6 light and 6 medium/dark). For the borders, cut 3.5 inch strips as follows: (1) 3.5 x 6.5, (2) 3.5 x 9.5, (1) 3.5 x 12.5. Attach the light borders to the dark squares and vice versa. Then when you lay it all out, you can alternate light dark. Use quarter inch seams.
Hope that helps Angie. Good luck! I will try to get a more standardized tutorial up soon.
jennifer, Molly is wearing Target (hat and skirt), jcrew (crewcuts sale + extra 30% off - sweater and shirt), Gymboree (30% off - tights), and Justice Just for Girls (boots).
I was thinking we do look pretty matchy. I'm glad you think we don't.
And you're family is so dang cute, you could wear burlap sacks and still have a great picture! (now there's an idea for next year....)
Love this picture! I would love to get pictures like this someday. Where are you guys? It certainly doesn't look like Phx? Or did she photoshop the yellow door? :o)
Gina, We are at Heritage Square in downtown Phoenix - right by the Science Museum and Pizzaria Bianco (yum). Also not too far from the ballpark.
I am wishing I would have put the 30 pounds down and let him not jump. He would not do it, so I picked him up, but that could have been cute - everyone jumping except the 2 year old.
AMAZING! I think I must call. There is nothing better than amazing family fotos! This is the BEST! I'm going to her site now to check her out. So does she walk you threw or did you have your own ideas?
Sarah, Emily just sent me your way to look at your fun picture. I love it! We were just in downtown Phx on Saturday to do pics. It was fun. We ended up in a random alley with some cool old brick too. It looks a little like yours!
Anyways...you guys are all amazingly beautiful! Mark's jump is the best. It makes me laugh. So springy:).
John was checking your pictures out and the photographer. He loved the style of photography she does. I didn't know he had opinons on stuff like this. I am so glad you got these done, they are great! I see she is out of California. We will have to contact her. Your family is beautiful!

P.S. Good for you for being able to jump 6 inches in the hair while holding a 30 pound toddler AND your face still looks gorgeous.
