Last week I got the nicest surprise in my inbox. Camille, from Simplify, sent me two new quilt patterns. I am excited to try them out, especially after I saw what she made with them. She is tal.en.ted. For a baby quilt, she used just one star block from "swoon" and added a hefty white border all around. It is darling.

when I saw those on Camilles blog I "swooned". I can't wait to see your version too- your quilts are always so pretty!!!
So funny you mentioned these patterns.. I was looking at loving them last night! I want to make a chevron quilt. It will be my first. I loved the one you made for a wedding gift. (What a gift!!) I looked all over Park City girls website and couldn't find directions? Do you know where I can find it? Also, you did 10" squares... loved them. How big was the quilt when it was finished... Oh, and how far awart did you machine quilt the lines? Thanks, Sarah. Sorry for a million questions. Love your blog!
oh i love that top one! can't wait to see how yours turn out.
angie,
i should really make my own tutorial. i had to search for it on park city girl and finally found it. here's the link: http://amyscreativeside.com/2009/08/23/zig-zag-quilt-along-links/
angie,
forgot to answer the other questions. i don't remember the exact size of the quilt, but i do know i did an even number of squares across, so that the zig zag started and ended going the same direction (up or down). so i think it must have been 6 across and 7 down.
the lines were quilted a quarter inch apart.
Thank you Sarah for finding the link for me. I am so excited to make this quilt! I am using denim and bright summer colors. I probably needed to be more specific with my question... I meant how far apart were the machine quilted lines that you did after the top was peiced? They look a few inches apart in your pictures? Thanks Sarah.
I just looked at your two chevron quilts again, and I wanted to quilt mine like you did on the grey and mustard one. SO CUTE. How do you sew as much as you do with 6kids? I'm impressed.
P.S. You are my favorite person to ask sewing questions to because you answer SO fast. I love it! :)
Angie,
So I just looked at the quilt again and I did not even answer your question correctly. I was thinking of another chevron quilt that I did a double line every few inches.
Anyway, on that quilt, and on a few others, I used painters tape to make diagonals all across the quilt. I highly recommend this so your diagonals don't start to go different angles. If you tape it all out first, you'll be in good shape. With the tape, I just eyeball it, but you could also be more precise and measure. Once the tape is down, I sewed a quarter inch from both sided of the tape. Depending on how close you put your tape, you could also just sew to one side of every tape line. Does that make sense?
Great idea with the tape. Thanks so much. Sorry I'm asking a million questions... Did you start in the middle of the quilt and work you way out or did you work top left corner and finish up the bottom right corner? This is a first for me, so I don't want to mess it up when I quilt it! :)
start with the corner and try to follow the lines of the zig zags as much as possible. it's likely it won't always line up perfectly, as the fabric will lay unevenly sometimes.
Thanks so much. I appreciate all your advise and tips!
I bought the In A Jiffy pattern last week...its the little cirlces that are calling me to the challange! I do love the Jelly Bean one too, but think I can probably do that with out a pattern.
