do you really need a desert boot in the desert?

I found this photo on pinterest somewhere. I decided I had to have these Clark's boots.
So I ordered them, and now I'm having second thoughts. They hurt a bit, but that is to be expected, right? They'll only get more comfortable with each wear, right? They don't look too masculine, right?
Help! Maybe I should just send them back. Afterall, summer is right around the corner. Will I really wear them? Would they work for our trip to Denmark in May?

I feel like such a jerk because I just discovered your blog yesterday and this is my first comment but I've got to say, those are not very flattering shoes, I would return them and find something else.

I agree not very flattering. I don't comment often so feel kinda rude saying something but if you can rerun and don't love them I would.

Look at them in the mirror instead. That way you see what others see.

Well! I actually love them. Obviously they're not everyone's style but you and I always seem to be on similar wavelengths and I've been thinking lately that I hope I can find some small ones in the Men's section at Last Chance next time I'm down. So I vote keep!!

Im not a huge fan of them but I do like the ankle boot look. If they are not comfortable now DO NOT take to Denmark. Throw in a pair of TOMS for that. No seriously, TOMS are the best traveling shoe....cute and stylish yet so comfortable when you are walking all around.

if you are going for masculine, those are your babies....if you love them, you would have no doubts about keeping them: "when in doubt, bail out!"

I think they're really cute! They certainly aren't as feminine as strappy sandals but that doesn't mean they are masculine. I can't imagine you looking masculine in anything Sarah! They are fun and stylish and trendy and you could totally pull them off...if you wanted to. Along with so many other comments though, if you don't love them then that might be the bigger issue. I'm curious to hear what you decide. Good luck. :)

You'll blend right in in Denmark :) And what, you're going to Denmark? We spent a week there a long time ago, we'll talk! And btw, anything on you always looks cute, so wear what you want, how you want, because it is so you...we all try to copy you!

Im an outsider and a blog stalker. (I know your mom) I think they are awesome. They look like real leather and will soften up. Growing up wearing leather boots we would squirt the insides with water and wear them until they dry and they would form to your foot doing this. You could do it a couple of times. But if you really are torn. Get your money back.

I think they're adorable and not everyone can pull them off, but you can! That said, if they're not comfortable then you won't want to wear them to Denmark. Helena and I were just talking about desert boots last night when we were discussing our Europe wardrobe. Why is this so stressful? I don't know what I'm bringing. I have some really, really comfortable oxford style shoes that are super cute that I might bring but I'm worried they'll get trashed with all the rain. I may have to bring boots, which I've found aren't terribly comfortable. (this is Liz, by the way, not my mom).

Also, these desert boots are super cute and look a little more feminine (and they're less expensive). http://www.anthropologie.com/anthro/product/shoes-boots/26400861.jsp

Everyone,
Thanks for all the help! I still love the look of the boots, but I did send them back. I think I may revisit them in the fall, when I feel like wearing boots again. Or maybe I'll find them on clearance and feel more justified in buying them again.
They were somewhat uncomfortable so I decided they are not meant for Denmark (in a few months). I am certain they COULD be comfortable with some wearing-in, but it makes no sense to wear boots in the heat, so they are postponed.
Liz,
The Anthro shoes are adorable! Love them! But, I wonder if I'd have the same problem with comfort.
