Lucy is my great-niece, or grandniece. Which means she is the daughter of my nephew. So logically, it  means she is the granddaughter of my brother or sister (in-law). But that just sounds old.

Lucy is a dream baby: Never cries. Always smiling. Not afraid of strangers. And oh so cute!  

This quilt is the same pattern I made for my nephew Golden, but obviously PINK.

I randomly quilted unmarked and unmeasured lines horizontally and vertically, to balance out the very precise layout of the star. The white is Kona Cotton Snow: Not too white, not too creamy. Pretty much my choice for white on quilts. 

These last two photos were taken at night, so enough said. 

It's a little hard to tell, but the binding is mostly white, with a black piece (on the bottom left, below) to shake things up a bit.

flying geese for simon

"Finishing" this quilt in December meant that I managed to get the top done and I could wrap it up for my sister in law's baby shower as a partially finished gift. Later that month, baby Simon was born. The next few months were slow due to machine tension glitches. Oh the glitches!

You know what they say, [January, February, March and] April showers bring May flowers. And glorious May brought a finished product! 

These few months have certainly treated baby simon well: just look at that cute little babe! And when I say "little," I mean chubbalicious, of course.

 Simon's favorite colors are black and white. What are the odds!!!?

It's a little hard to see in some of the shots, but I used a creamy white for the majority of the quilt, and added some pure white triangles for a subtle contrast.

many photos. one quilt.

We just returned from London and the jet lag is casting its vote for sleep. But this quilt is finished, and by golly, what better time than now to blog again after my quasi summer-hiatus.

This quilt was inspired by the design of this one and the colors of this one. My nephew, Golden, is the long overdue recipient.

I snagged this insty from my sister. Love to see baby and quilt living in harmony. I think the colors are more true in this photo. The black looks black, and the navy looks navy. And how cute is that boy!

hip to be square

This quilt has been in the making for years. Not that I've been actually sewing this specific one for that long. But the hankering, and the desire, to make a quilt for my friend's little boy, Brock, has persisted since before he was born. He is now 2+.  And he is sweet and darling, as is his mom. (I made a quilt for Brock's sister a few years ago too.)

The idea is loosely from Hopewell American Textiles.

I was so happy to finally give this quilt to its rightful owner(s).

baby potluck

Introducing Potluck's little sister: Baby Potluck. I had so many squares from the original leftover, I couldn't resist putting this one together. I laid it out with the white squares randomly placed throughout. But after sewing the rows together, I decided I wanted the white squares to look more intentional, so I rearranged everything and settled on this white V formation.

Hank and George are always eager to help me with quilt photos, but Goerge's little conniving is something to watch out for. I helped them stand on the bench, and then told them to hold the quilt up high. As soon as I stepped back to take the photo, George whispered: "Let's drop it. 1, 2, 3!"

We tried it again, but George still had a hard time following directions. What a shocker!

So back inside I went. Hank followed. He is especially excited about photos these days. He wants to be in every shot.

Sidenote: My boys love this old Rice Krispies shirt they've had since they were two. Especially Hank. He looks for it every morning. I let them choose their own clothes (most days) and Hank cannot get enough of his faded, too small, two-year-old clothing (he's wearing holes in these plaid shorts). Despite my efforts to replenish their wardrobe, they prefer the "tried and true" standbys. If I remove them permanently, I think Hank will have a panic attack.

The back is aqua flannel with one white cotton stripe. I quilted it in the double leaf pattern again and bound it using scraps from other quilt bindings. It seemed fitting.

Baby Potluck is for my neighbor's sweet baby, Laryssa.

Nephew Fritz is one year old today. I delivered this quilt just in time for his big day. (Or one could say, almost a full year late for his birth, but let's accentuate the positive.)

"Forget the quilt, take a picture of ME, mom!"

I used the Hourglass baby quilt tutorial from Cluck Cluck Sew. It's a fun pattern, and she gives great instructions. (fyi: I cut 7" squares, instead of 6").
