cuz we're all in the mood for a melody

Last month, Grace played in a piano recital where Jon Schmidt was the guest performer.  I was impressed by both.  Grace played with absolute confidence.  She was front and center, with 20 other pianos on stage.  And she shined - paying attention to the director, never missing a beat.
Jon Schmidt was showing off a bit (upside-down and hands-crossed). He played this song and it was incredible.  I was completely mesmerized by this performance.  Go listen.  You won't regret it.  Mark's been playing this over and over lately.  He was outside entertaining a 4 year old who could not sit still, so he missed this song and most of Jon Schmidt.  He also missed a lot of cheesy amateur-hour jokes from the m.c.'s (I have to use an apostrophe here, or it's completely confusing).  Being outside was not all bad.
Speaking of sitting still, Grace's cousins sat through the concert much better than they sat for these pictures.  "Don't move!"

My mother-in-law sent me this link to a recording done by her 16 year old niece. It is beautiful. Go listen. Can't stop thinking about my friend each time I hear it.

we belong

I saw this on my friend Kathleen's blog. I usually don't respond to "tag, you're it" blogging questionnaires. But she didn't tag me or anyone else. I did this one on my own. I'm in a blogging slump. Okay, here are the rules. Put your itunes/windows media player/whatever on random and then fill in the answers. The song's name is the answer to the question. No skipping ahead. It's more fun this way. You'd be surprised how often the planets will align themselves for you. IF SOMEONE SAYS 'ARE YOU OKAY' YOU SAY? New Soul Yael Naim HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOURSELF Pride U2 Oh, that can't be good. WHAT DO YOU LIKE IN A GUY/GIRL? Wrapped Around Brad Paisley ??? HOW DO YOU FEEL TODAY? Here's To You Rascal Flatts WHAT IS YOUR LIFE'S PURPOSE? Love Is a Battlefield Pat Benatar Ain't it though? WHAT'S YOUR MOTTO? Thank Goodness Wicked: Original Broadway Cast Now we're getting somewhere. WHAT DO YOUR FRIENDS THINK OF YOU? Perfect Day Hoku My friends know better. WHAT DO YOUR PARENTS THINK OF YOU? Wide Open Spaces Dixie Chicks Who doesn't know what I'm talkin' about? Who's never left home, who's never struck out? WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT VERY OFTEN? Space Between Dave Matthews Band This could symbolize my absent mind lately. WHAT DO YOU THINK OF YOUR BEST FRIEND? Just Like Heaven The Cure Right on. WHAT IS YOUR LIFE STORY? Adia Sarah McLachlan Ms. McLachlan, you can't name a song using a name. It just doesn't work for this game. WHAT DO YOU WANT TO BE WHEN YOU GROW UP? This Side Nickel Creek This side of sane? WHAT WILL THEY PLAY AT YOUR FUNERAL? Summertime The Sundays Is that because the arizona summertime is what did me in? WHAT IS YOUR HOBBY/INTEREST? Take The Money and Run Steve Miller Band That works. WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST FEAR? Don't Stand So Close To Me The Police Personal Space is important, you know. WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST SECRET? Angel of the Morning Juice Newton I need to listen to the lyrics closely to see what this song is about. The title sounds questionable at best. Gotta love Juice though! WHAT DO YOU WANT RIGHT NOW? Mysterious Ways U2 No. I like honest, straightforward ways. WHAT DO YOU THINK OF YOUR FRIENDS? Unwritten Natasha Bedingfield WHAT WILL YOU POST THIS AS? We Belong Pat Benatar It appears that I am a big Pat Benatar and U2 fan. One or both of these is true.

The Best of Both Worlds

Things I learned at the Hannah Montana Concert Movie:
1. Miley Cyrus is a very talented girl
2. Girls ages 5 - 11 can really scream
3. There's a new animated 3-D movie coming out that looks really cute *update: Molly told me that the new 3-D movie is not a cartoon. Real people and something about the center of the earth. Obviously not paying much attention.
4. 3-D glasses give me a headache
5. Debbie Gibson and Tiffany have nothin' on Miss Montana
6. That girl is making some BANK! or should be.
7. The Jonas brothers are the hottest thing? if you're ages 5-11
8. Moms get a little kooky when taking their daughters to a "rock concert" - possibly reliving their Debbie Gibson days. PUSHY, LINING UP HOURS BEFOREHAND, DRESSING THEIR LITTLE DARLINGS TO THE NINES. Not me personally though.
9. Miley Cyrus is the granddaughter of Dolly Parton {OK, I didn't learn that at the concert, but Mark told me after the fact. Is that true? I'm too lazy to verify.}
10. My 9 year old and 6 yr old know all the lyrics to every HM song. Who knew?

unrelated note: whye is'nt my blogr spel-chek worcking?
