Aren't these vintage travel posters beautiful? They are really getting me so excited about our trip to Denmark. We already have a list of must-sees. But if you know of something off the beaten path that we shouldn't miss, I'd love to hear about it. (We always love food recommendations too.)

what kind of lunchbox did you have?
The blogosphere is full of back to school photos and thoughts. I thought I'd share a few of my own. This is a photo of me and my older brother, Ryan, on the first day of school - 1980. I was starting 2nd grade. This was a warm day in Kennewick, WA - no different from the typical warm summer days that lead up to it. But I remember insisting on wearing my new school clothes - a long sleeved blouse and long, hot jeans. Image over comfort, even in 2nd grade.
Other memories of this day:
I loved my Snoopy lunchbox. And I remember bringing milk to drink in the matching thermos inside.
We did not have backpacks. We just carried everything to school in our hands/arms. I don't even know if other kids had them. Maybe it was just not the thing to do. I do remember later carrying a bag and/or backpack when I was older, but not in 2nd grade.
A found this second photo while looking for the back-to-school one. It was taken a few months earlier, in Salmon, ID, where my Grandma lived. My mom was 31 here - much younger than I am now. That's so crazy to me.

purple dresses
I love these Easter dresses my mom made for us 32 years ago. I vividly remember being so excited about the matching purses she made too. Whatever happened to those dresses? I wish we still had them. This was an ambitious undertaking in my book.
My memories from this age are spotty. It seems like my 4 year old will certainly remember everything about his life right now, when he is my age. But maybe not. How sad.

2004
So here we are. The next year. Married. Pretty much the same pose, but sitting. Grace had some serious hair issues. I think Molly was wearing the same dress as the year before. I am possibly wearing the same top. And look at those highlights.
One more for the road. Then I think I'm done with Christmas posts.

While looking for a picture of this quilt,I also found this
Don't we all look so young? This was pre-Owen, pre-marriage, pre-engagement even. But I did surprise Mark with that quilt for Christmas, so that's probably what cinched it for him. We were engaged the next month.
